July 15, 2020 — The Joint Base Charleston Palmetto Spark Innovation Lab celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday July 10, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina. The formal ceremony also included a tour of the innovation lab showcasing its resources such as 3D printers, computer numerical control machines, software development and augmented virtual reality devices. 628th HVAC works to keep JB Charleston up and running
July 14, 2020 — The 628th Civil Engineer Squadron’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration flight provides service and maintenance to nearly 270 buildings at Joint Base Charleston. Personnel assigned to the 628th CES/HVAC maintain a variety of heating, cooling and ventilation systems on the airbase and work around the clock to keep the HVAC systems up and running. ... MORE

JB Charleston receives Labrador military working dog
July 8, 2020 — Military working dogs have many jobs such as finding bombs, explosives and people, which are vital to keeping people and the base safe. When most people think of a MWD, they think of German Shepherds, but there are other breeds, such as Labradors and Belgian Malinois, that serve in the military. Staff Sgt. Jenings Casey, a military working dog trainer assigned to the 628th Security Forces Squadron, said Joint Base Charleston recently got a Labrador named Freddy. She was originally in the Marine Corps, but they recently downsized their military working dog section and the Air Force took in multiple labs. She is currently the only lab at JB Charleston. ... She is an explosive detector dog but performs additional tasks that other MWDs at JB Charleston do not such as an extra off-leash capability. JB Charleston dental clinic remains operational to continue the mission
June 30, 2020 — Even in the midst of a pandemic, dental care remains an important part of staying healthy and remaining mission ready. Airmen who work in the 628th Medical Group dental clinic have adapted to changes brought on by COVID-19. Lt. Col. Christopher Jordan, 628 MDG chief of dental services, said they have had to restrict a lot of services and focus on readiness. ... MORE

The dental clinic is open for dental emergencies and deployment exams and has recently started taking annual exams. Dental clinic personnel are protecting their patients and themselves by regularly cleaning surfaces, wearing masks and gloves, reducing the number of patients they see, practicing physical distancing whenever possible and having patients use pretreatment mouth rinse.

U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John Barrett, 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron commander presents Tech. Sgt. David Hoy, 628th LRS Fuels Control Center NCO in charge, a Bronze Star Medal award for his excellence during a deployment to Afghanistan, June 18, 2020 at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. During his deployment, Hoy traveled to various Afghan bases where he would advise on processes involving jet fuels transport and storage. He was rewarded with the Bronze Star Medal as a result of his commitment to the mission.
