Military, civilians band together for domestic threat response training

— The 628th Security Forces Squadron partnered with Citadel cadets, as well as the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. and Marine Patrol teams for a joint training exercise April 12, 2019, on Naval Weapons Station Charleston, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The intent of the operation was to execute defense support for civil authorities. The training focused on developing leadership, interagency interoperability, hands-on experience, communication, collaboration and cohesion while demonstrating capabilities. The Joint Task Force did this by leading platoons through the woods to a mock enemy location, providing 360-degree surveillance, using flash bangs and smoke grenades as distractions and infiltrating the shoot house. ...

Drug Take Back Day at JB Charleston aims to prevent abuse

— Got drugs? The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and Joint Base Charleston’s law enforcement agencies, along with the Drug Demand Reduction Program, will partner to provide the community an opportunity to help prevent pill abuse by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. Members of JB Charleston can bring their unused or expired prescription pills for disposal to the Air Base BX or the Naval Weapons Station NEX on April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Event coordinators say they cannot accept liquids, needles/sharps, but they will accept pills and patches. Third-party insurance helps improve quality of health care at NHCC

— Like the private health care industry, the cost of providing health care services to Department of Defense’s active-duty personnel, their dependents, retirees and their survivors or dependents, has increased dramatically and will likely continue to rise. To defray costs, Congress created the Third-Party Collection Program in 1986, requiring all military treatment facilities to recover some of these costs by third-party civilian insurance carriers. — When Maj. Amanda E. Ferguson assumed her position as 628th Medical Group’s Pharmacy Flight commander in August 2017, she was determined to engage her team and unlock their innovative potential, a goal she shared that year in an article entitled, “70 years: Our Legacy through Airmen’s Eyes.” In it, Ferguson wrote, “The opportunity to lead [Airmen] and watch their ideas ignite one after the other is by-far the best part of my job.” Last month, their vision came to fruition.
