It was an evening of celebration, trying on uniforms, food and camaraderie as newly selected chief petty officers from all the LowCountry commands came out to the Navy Exchange’s special evening for the chief petty officer selectees Aug. 13, 2014, at Joint Base Charleston, S.C.  As Sailors make the transition to the rank of chief petty officer (E-7), new uniforms are required and experienced chiefs serve as sponsors to the selectees, helping them pick out all the correct uniform items they will need as they begin the next step of their careers. Walker visited the base to share his story about growing up in Georgia, playing professional football and how he sought help from mental health professionals for his struggles with dissociative identity disorder. Walker spoke and met Sailors and Airmen at both the Weapons Station and Air Base where he met with service members and their families and signed autographs.
