JB Charleston reopens gates following Hurricane Matthew

C-17 missions still continue into Afghanistan

437th Airlift Wing evacuates C-17s

A maintainer with the 437th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron marshals out a Joint Base Charleston C-17 Globemaster III as it is evacuated to Fort Campbell, Ky., on Oct. 6, 2016, so they can continue their mission of rapid global mobility during Hurricane Matthew. Due to Hurricane Matthew, a Limited Evacuation Order of South Carolina Hurricane Evacuation Zones was issued by the Commander, Joint Base Charleston. All Joint Base personnel are expected to evacuate the area and will return once damage has been assessed and it’s safe to return.

Atkinson trains prisoners in graphic design enabling them to earn Department of Labor certifications. Atkinson's design skills, project procurement knowledge and student prisoner workforce have saved the DHS over $400,000 in design and labor costs over the past 10 years. Cox and his wife were visiting Joint Base Charleston to meet the Airmen of the 437th Airlift Wing and convey to them the importance of the work they do every day. As Air Mobility Command’s sole warfighting numbered air force, 18th Air Force is responsible for the command’s worldwide operational mission of providing rapid, global mobility and sustainment for America’s armed forces through airlift, aerial refueling, aeromedical evacuation, and contingency response.
