International Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty tested at JB Charleston
May 15, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston Air Base hosted a week-long Chemical Weapons Convention exercise Jan. 7-11, 2019. The purpose of the exercise was to test the response of Air Force Major Command Base Assistance Teams here should the U.S. receive an international challenge inspection under the Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty. A similar exercise was conducted May 16, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. “This annual training tests our ability to respond to a challenge inspection under the treaty. During the exercise and in real world, the Air Force would be the lead,” said Kimbrell. “The Army and Navy would only assist if the Naval Weapons Station were included in the final inspection perimeter.” ... 2019 Month of the Military Child
April 29, 2019 — A photo-series recognizing April as Month of the Military Child. Former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger first designated the month in 1986 to honor the sacrifices of the military family and to highlight the impact military service can have on children. According to a DOD study, the average child in a military family will change schools six to nine times during a school career. JBC town halls enhance discussion and feedback
April 11, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston recently hosted four town halls from March 26-28, 2019, to inform service members and residents about changes affecting the installation as well as create a forum to ask questions and give feedback directly to base leadership. The JBC town halls were held both on the Air Base and Naval Weapons Station and base members could participate on Facebook Live. 315 AW to host Red Bull Paper Wings competition during April UTA
March 27, 2019 — The 315th Airlift Wing and Red Bull are hosting a 2019 Red Bull Paper Wings (paper plane) competition, a qualifier for the world championships, April 13, 2019, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. March 6, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston leadership marked the grand reopening of The Dive Bar & Grill on the Naval Weapons Station with a ribbon cutting ceremony March 1, 2019. The Dive, a restaurant located adjacent to the NWS bowling alley, had been closed since April 2018, and the plans to renovate the establishment started in Nov. 2017. Eighteenth Air Force leaders visit JB Charleston
February 22, 2019 — Maj. Gen. Sam C. Barrett, 18th Air Force commander, paid a visit to Joint Base Charleston leadership and Airmen Feb. 11-14, 2019, as part of an effort to learn more about the daily mission of JBC and its support to the 18th Air Force. Barrett was accompanied by his wife, Kelly Barrett, as well as Chief Master Sgt. Daniel C. Simpson, 18th Air Force command chief master sergeant. Hosted by Col.
