Palmetto Challenge 19-2

Airmen evacuate the Emergency Operations Center after a simulated chemical attack during Palmetto Challenge at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, S.C., Nov. 3, 2019. The goal of the exercise was to develop and maintain full-spectrum readiness and ensure JB Charleston’s Airmen were ready for rapid mobilization and able to support Air Mobility Command and DOD priorities. Both active-duty and reserve Airmen from the 628th Air Base Wing, 437th Airlift Wing and 315th Airlift Wing came together to train in operating in an austere environment. More than 140 Airmen took part in the global mobilization readiness exercise at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, and Pope Army Airfield, S.C.

43rd, 375th AES conduct TIS training at JB Charleston

Members of the 43rd Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron from Pope Army Air Field, N.C., and 375th AES from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. carry a simulated Ebola patient onto a C-17 Globemaster III during a Transport Isolation System training exercise at Joint Base Charleston, S.C., October 23, 2019. The TIS is a device used to transport Ebola patients, either by C-17 Globemaster III or C-130 Hercules, while preventing the spread of disease to medical personnel and aircrews until the patient can get to one of three designated hospitals in the United States that can treat Ebola patients. JB Charleston is currently the only military installation with a TIS. The TIS mission is a sub-specialty of the aeromedical evacuation mission which requires frequent training to maintain readiness.

Members of Team Charleston were at the school to educate students about Red Ribbon Week and drug prevention. Red Ribbon Week, which takes place October 23-31, is an awareness program that began in 1985 as a way to show opposition to drugs as stated by the Get Smart About Drugs foundation.

Team Charleston celebrates Navy birthday at Navy Ball

It is tradition for the youngest and oldest Sailors in the room to cut the cake. Service members attended the ball to celebrate the Navy’s 244th birthday.

14th Airlift Squadron Aircrew maintains readiness through local flights

Clark Belfanti, both C-17 Globemaster III pilots assigned to the 14th Airlift Squadron, perform low-level flying operations during a local training mission Sept. 26, 2019, over South Carolina. Training missions allow aircrew to maintain currency, training and evaluations in all flying requirements. These training capabilities allow 14th AS Aircrew members to enhance rapid global mobility anytime, anywhere.

The general duties of an aircraft maintenance technician is to perform daily maintenance, diagnose malfunctions, replace components and perform crash recovery. After their initial training, Airmen may be assigned to specialize in the maintenance of specific aircraft.
