628th LRS demonstrates FARP mission

628th Logistics Readiness Squadron Forward Area Refueling Point operation equipment is displayed during a demonstration at Joint Base Charleston - Air Base, July 12, 2012. The FARP’s mission is to hot refuel, refueling while the aircrafts’ engines are operating, from a transport aircraft (C-17 Globemaster III) to a receiver aircraft, under the cover of darkness in an austere environment. The team’s capability to refuel aircraft in remote locations helps support special operations teams worldwide. The C-17 Globemaster III not only has the capability to fly long distances and land in remote airfields in rough, land-locked regions, but it can also carry large equipment, supplies and troops directly to small airfields in harsh terrain anywhere in the world, day or night. JB Charleston uses ELMR to bridge geographical gap
July 17, 2012 — The 628th Communications Squadron recently saved $3.5 million by leveraging the Navy's Enterprise Land Mobile Radio solution at Joint Base Charleston. By utilizing the existing Weapons Station ELMR solution to expand on the Air Base, the 628th CS was able to generate an investment savings of $3.5 million.
