Sailor Wins Levitow Award At ALS

Charleston Airman lives to tell of war: earns two medals

Staff Sgt. Douglas Ryan, 628th Explosive Ordnance Disposal noncommissioned officer in charge of training, stands at attention while Maj. Gen. Timothy Byers, the Air Force Civil Engineer, pins on one of his two medals he received June 27 at the Joint Base Charleston Theater. Ryan deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan. In addition to the Air Force Combat Action Medal and Bronze Star, he has also received the Army Combat Action Badge and the Navy/Marines Corps Combat Action Ribbon as well as multiple Army Commendation medals.
