Cleanup efforts continue outside JB Charleston

JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. - Cleanup crews remove jet fuel from one of three sites along a drainage ditch outside Joint Base Charleston - Air Base July 18, 2014, following a leak on the flightline two nights before. A multi-pronged team comprised of base civil engineers and members of the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Health and Environmental Control and Moran Environmental Recovery have been working together to control and remove the spilled fuel. Surveillance traps use a combination of light and carbon dioxide to attract mosquitos. NHCC preventative medicine technicians provide surveillance for five areas throughout the Weapons Station, setting up Center of Disease Control light traps that lure and capture mosquitos so they can be counted, deciphered according to species and sex, and sent to labs to be tested.
