NHCC celebrates Heart Health Month by wearing red

Theresa Wood, director for Naval Health Clinic Charleston’s Health and Wellness Program, speaks about the loss of her mother, who died as a result of heart disease, during NHCC’s Heart Health Month observance Feb. 2, which was also National Wear Red Day, a campaign event to raise awareness about heart disease -- the No. 1 killer of women and men. Naval Health Clinic Charleston staff members wore red attire and ribbons and snacked on heart-healthy treats.

Lowcountry regional director visits NHCC

Haley Bouchard, physician assistant, cut the cake during NHCC's celebration of the 70th birthday of the Medical Service Corps Aug. 4 at NHCC. After the outbreak of World War II, on Aug. 4, 1947, President Harry Truman signed the Army-Navy Medical Service Corps Act, establishing a permanent officer category to complement the existing medical department officer corps.

NHCC dietician encourages eating right

Kay Lehman, Naval Health Clinic Charleston's new dietitian, teaches weight loss tips during a Lunch-and-Learn nutrition class at NHCC. Lehman provides dietary counseling, educates NHCC staff and patients on current nutrition topics and provides health and wellness education to Joint Base Charleston community members. She is now offering NHCC patients one-on-one dietary consults, as well as, group classes. To schedule a consultation or to attend a class, call NHCC's Health and Wellness Department at 843-794-6910.
