Air quality researchers examine multiple CATM sites to conduct exposure study

Staff Sgt. Alexander Elder, 628th Security Forces Squadron Combat Arms Training and Maintenance instructor, assists Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, researchers by wearing equipment to analyze the fumes expended from the weapon when fired at the firing range, Nov. 17, 2016. The focus of the research is to determine if expended fumes are being properly ventilated on firing ranges.

NAAF hosts Army exercise

Soldiers from the 414th Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Area Support Company and the 409th Area Support Medical Company, setup temporary treatment facilities during a mass casualty and decontamination exercise at North Auxiliary Airfield in North, South Carolina Jan. 10, 2017. Both units work hand-in-hand to setup a treatment center capable of decontaminating and caring for victims of a CBRN attack within two and a half hours of arriving on scene. North Auxiliary Airfield is a Joint Base Charleston asset capable of hosting a wide range of exercises.

MacDill KC-135s conclude temporary relocation at JB Charleston

A crew chief assigned to Joint Base Charleston marshals one of MacDill Air Force Base's (AFB) KC-135 Stratotanker at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, Oct. 27. Four steady-state KC-135 Stratotankers and 90 Airmen operated out of JB Charleston during MacDill AFB's runway reconstruction project. The aircraft and personnel returned to MacDill AFB on Dec. 19 and 20.

New equipment could save AMC millions

A High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle was tied down with both the existing tiedowns and new synthetic tiedowns to conduct a side by side demonstration during an operational evaluation on Joint Base Charleston, Nov. 28 and 29. The evaluation was a culmination of an Air Force Research Labs, Advanced Power Technology Office, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, initiative to reduce aircraft weight by almost 1,000 pounds for better fuel efficiency.

Community unites after fire destroys Marine’s home

U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Ruben Barnett, U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig Charleston correctional specialist, and his son, Ruben received gifts from BAE Systems at his new home Dec. 21, 2016. Barnett and his son lost all of their belongings in a house fire the day before Thanksgiving. BAE Systems and Operation Homefront host a campaign called the Joy of Giving where they sponsor a family in need during the holiday season.

Medical moulage enhances exercise

Moulage, the art of applying make-up to simulate injuries, is used to train medical and military personnel how to triage and treat patients. Using materials such as artificial blood, latex, paint and silicone, moulage adds realism to exercise scenarios.
