JB Charleston teams with Brazilian Navy, others to deliver helicopters

A Seahawk S-70B (SH-16 in Brazilian service) is positioned to be loaded into a C-17 Aug. 8 . Built by Sikorsky Aircraft, the Brazilian Seahawks feature a low-frequency dipping sonar, digital automatic flight control and dual flight management systems and a GPS inertial navigation system. Additional features include a glass cockpit compatible with night-vision goggles, a survivability suite combining missile warning and countermeasure dispensing systems and Kongsberg's Penguin Mk 2 Mod 7 anti-ship missile. Capable of reaching speeds of more than 180 miles per hour, the helicopter can be used to perform coastal and oceanic missions in addition to anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, surveillance, gunfire support and search-and-rescue operations. School supplies given out during Back to School Brigade

Military children at Joint Base Charleston - Air Base picked up school supplies for the 2015-2016 school year during the Operation Homefront Back to School Brigade event Aug. 13 at the Forest City community center. Items such as notebooks, pens and pencils as well as calculators were donated by patrons of the Dollar Tree and were distributed by volunteers from Science Applications International Corporation. A second Back to School Brigade event was held at the Balfour Beatty community center at JB Charleston - Weapons Station later in the day. Between both locations, approximately 300 backpacks filled with supplies was distributed to military children. (Courtesy photo / 628th Force Support Squadron) Nearly 300 Joint Base Charleston families were provided free back-to-school supplies Aug. 12, that were donated by patrons of Dollar Tree. One event took place on the Air Base at the Forest City Community Center and the other was on the Weapons Station at the Balfour Beatty Community Center.
