International Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty tested at JB Charleston
May 15, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston Air Base hosted a week-long Chemical Weapons Convention exercise Jan. 7-11, 2019. The purpose of the exercise was to test the response of Air Force Major Command Base Assistance Teams here should the U.S. receive an international challenge inspection under the Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty. A similar exercise was conducted May 16, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. “This annual training tests our ability to respond to a challenge inspection under the treaty. During the exercise and in real world, the Air Force would be the lead,” said Kimbrell. “The Army and Navy would only assist if the Naval Weapons Station were included in the final inspection perimeter.” ... JBC town halls enhance discussion and feedback
April 11, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston recently hosted four town halls from March 26-28, 2019, to inform service members and residents about changes affecting the installation as well as create a forum to ask questions and give feedback directly to base leadership. The JBC town halls were held both on the Air Base and Naval Weapons Station and base members could participate on Facebook Live. More town hall meetings on the topic of housing will be held in April. ... MORE

Time to 'Dive' back in
March 6, 2019 — Joint Base Charleston leadership marked the grand reopening of The Dive Bar & Grill on the Naval Weapons Station with a ribbon cutting ceremony March 1, 2019. The Dive, a restaurant located adjacent to the NWS bowling alley, had been closed since April 2018, and the plans to renovate the establishment started in Nov. 2017. NAVCONBRIG's Sailor of the Year continues to excel
December 17, 2018 — Yeoman First Class Kealy R. Lee was named the Navy Consolidated Brig Charleston's Sailor of the Year by Cmdr. Carl W. Brobst, NAVCONBRIG Charleston's commander Oct. 15, 2018, at Joint Base Charleston - Weapons Station. The ceremony was held during a Commanding Officer’s command-wide all hands call where Lee was presented a plaque for the unique honor and achievement. As the command's Sailor of the Year, she was also selected as Navy Corrections Sailor of the Year, representing all Navy corrections. She went on to be selected as the Bureau of Naval Personnel's Command Enterprise Sailor of the Year by Rear Adm J.W. Charleston Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony
December 10, 2018 — Service members and civilians from Joint Base Charleston were among the approximately 200 people attended the event to honor the service and sacrifice of those who died in the Pearl Harbor attacks on Dec. 7, 1941. In all, more than 2,403 U.S. service members and civilians lost their lives, including 25 from South Carolina.
