Nuclear Electronics Technician 3rd Class Austin Hronek, Navy Nuclear Power Training Command student, bottom, demonstrates Judo and Ju-Jitsu martial arts during the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Cultural Showcase on May 7, 2019, at the Air Base Chapel. AAPIHM recognizes the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders towards the United States of America. The Judo and Ju-jitsu martial arts are taught on base for free by Ronald Allan Charles, Judo and Ju-Jitsu black belt instructor. Food samples demonstrate the various types of foods during the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Cultural Showcase May 9, 2019, at the Chapel Annex. AAPIHM recognizes the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders towards the United States of America. The Joint Base Charleston Special Observance Committee also planned a Taste of Asia cooking and eating challenge at 5:15 p.m. on May 17, 2019, during the Armed Forces Celebration and the Run Through Asia 5K at 08:00 a.m. May 31, 2019, at the Menriv Park Naval Weapons Station.

U.S. Navy Captain Kevin Byrne, Joint Base Charleston deputy commander, tries some of the different food samples offered during the Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month Cultural Showcase on May 7, 2019, at the Air Base Chapel. AAPIHM recognizes the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders towards the United States of America. A martial arts demonstration was held at the showcase as well, displaying the differences and opportunities Joint Base Charleston offers in Ju-jitsu and Judo martial arts.
