JB Charleston puts on the B.R.A.K.E.S., hosts teen driving course
JOINT BASE CHARLESTON - WEAPONS STATION, S.C. - Car keys rest on a display to promote safe driving during a teen driving course Dec. 1, 2018, held at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The keys were part of a display intended to make participants of B.R.A.K.E.S. (be responsible and keep everyone safe), a driving program started by drag racer Doug Herbert hosted by JB Charleston, think twice about getting behind the wheel without proper safety precautions. The program’s mission is to prevent injuries and save lives by training and educating teenage drivers and their parents about the importance of safe and responsible driving. After an initial lesson on safe driving tips, participants were sent to the driving course where they tested various driving conditions including an obstacle course, slippery skid track as well as a ‘drunk driving course’ where participants wore drunk goggles to simulate the difficulty of driving under the influence. These types of events support JB Charleston’s efforts to engage with and support the local community.
