JB Charleston participates in Red Ribbon Week

Christopher Morrison, a program manager with the 628th Force Support Squadron fitness center, and Ann Schuler, a counselor at Marrington Elementary School, speak to the students, October 23, 2019, at Marrington Elementary School on Joint Base Charleston, S.C. Members of Team Charleston were at the school to educate students about Red Ribbon Week and drug prevention. Red Ribbon Week, which takes place October 23-31, is an awareness program that began in 1985 as a way to show opposition to drugs as stated by the Get Smart About Drugs foundation.

JB Charleston FD welcomes new trucks, honors past firefighters

Members of the 628th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department push a firetruck during a push-in ceremony at Joint Base Charleston, S.C. Aug. 27, 2019. The push-in ceremony was a way for the Fire Department to welcome two new firetrucks to their fleet, a P-26 water tanker and a P-26 aerial apparatus, and was the first of its kind at JB Charleston. Push-in ceremonies date back to when firefighters responded with horses and carriages and pushed their carriages back into stalls after returning from a call.

International Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty tested at JB Charleston

Inspectors and their military escorts working with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and Naval Treaty Implementation Program prepare to inspect munitions bunkers during the International Chemical Weapons Convention exercise May 16, 2019, at Naval Weapons Station Charleston, Joint Base Charleston, S.C. The purpose of the exercise is to test the response of base assistance teams should the U.S. receive an international challenge inspection under the Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty. The Chemical Weapons Convention aims to eliminate an entire category of weapons of mass destruction by prohibiting the development, production, acquisition, stockpiling, retention, transfer or use of chemical weapons by State Parties. Drug Take Back Day at JB Charleston aims to prevent abuse

Members of JB Charleston can bring their unused or expired prescription pills for disposal to the Air Base BX or the Naval Weapons Station NEX on April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Event coordinators say they cannot accept liquids, needles/sharps, but they will accept pills and patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
