JB Charleston LOA visits SC Ports Authority

The Joint Base Charleston Logistics Officer Association - Globemaster Chapter recently received a tour of the South Carolina Ports Authority, June 20, 2013. The group of 11 military and civilians received a bird's eye view of how a vibrant commercial seaport operates day-to-day, how import and export containers are processed, how dockside cranes operate, and how the Ports Authority is planning for the future. The presentation and tour took place at the Port of Charleston's Wando Welch Terminal in Mount Pleasant, S.C. The Port of Charleston processes $63 billion in international trade each year and facilitates one in 11 jobs statewide. The Port operates the state’s vital seaport assets in Charleston and Georgetown and recently projected $123 million in capital spending, which equates to 6% in container growth overall.
