Flags blow in the wind atop the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Cormorant Nov. 7, 2018 in Charleston, S.C. The ship’s crew took the USCG Academy class of 1965 on a tour of the Charleston Harbor during the 50-year anniversary of when they deployed to Vietnam. The class was deployed to Vietnam in 1968 where they patrolled the coast of the country during the conflict.

Operation SHRIMP and GRITS: boating safety, maritime security
August 14, 2018 — When someone mentions “shrimp and grits,” what comes to mind - a traditional dish in the Lowcountry of coastal South Carolina? In 2016 the U.S. Coast Guard gave “SHRIMP and GRITS” a whole new meaning: Save Harbor Reach on Intelligence for Multi-state Partnerships and Guarding Responsible Interests for Target Safety. Operation SHRIMP and GRITS is an annual multi-jurisdiction and multi-state maritime enforcement operation, which took place Aug. 11, 2018. The operation targets recreational and commercial boaters traveling along the water in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. April 3, 2018 — U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Erica Schwartz, Director of Health, Safety and Work-Life for the Coast Guard, visited Naval Health Clinic Charleston March 20. MORE

Health Service Technicians 1st Class Heidi Bennett, center, and Nicole Flores, right, Fleet Liaison Readiness Support for Coast Guard Charleston, greet Rear Adm. Erica Schwartz, left, Director of Health, Safety and Work-Life for the U.S. Coast Guard, during Schwartz's visit Naval Health Clinic Charleston March 20. Schwartz and her staff met with Coast Guard and NHCC leaders before touring the health care facility. Bennet, Flores and two other Coast Guard health service technicians are embedded at NHCC to provide medical and dental care for Coast Guard personnel and their families stationed at Sector Charleston. Schwartz is responsible for the Coast Guard's health care system of 41 clinics and 150 sick bays, as well as, operational and off-duty mishap prevention, response and investigation. Schwartz oversees the Coast Guard's child care programs and food services delivery programs, ashore and afloat and the Coast Guard's Ombudsman, Substance Abuse, Health Promotion and Sexual Assault Prevention and Response programs.
