Charleston goes virtual with Unit Personnel Record Group

By Staff Sgt. Marlon Jackson 437th Mission Support Squadron personnel readiness function

Headquarters Air Force Personnel Center issued a directive that required every Air Force installation to screen each Unit Personnel Record Group in preparation for implementation of the virtual records system by May 29.

The Airmen of the 437th Mission Support Squadron Military Personnel Flight worked tirelessly around the clock to screen 3,392 records belonging to base members. This vital screening process ensured that obsolete information was discarded before the virtual transformation.

Senior Airman Alphonso Moseley, 437 MSS evaluations monitor, proposed a strategy to efficiently complete the records screening process utilizing Air Force Smart Operations for the 21st Century. Airman Moseley's keen use of the AFSO 21 concept to streamline the process was instrumental in the completion of the records screening. Airman Moseley's suggestion dramatically reduced UPRG processing times and saved many man hours.

The men and women of the MPF completed the records screening in two weeks.

"The 437 MSS is a team, day in and day out," said Airman Moseley. "When it came to screening and preparing the UPRGs, we came together like a championship team, and we rose to the occasion and got the job done."

In conjunction with the records screening, MPF Airmen made copies of each Servicemen's Group Life Insurance in order to protect Charleston AFB Airmen. In the event of an unforeseen mishap, Team Charleston can rest assured that the UPRG transformation will not create a mission hindrance for the casualty assistance team.

Capt. Lori Tisdale, 437 MSS officer in charge of customer service, said that the virtual records system will vastly benefit Charleston AFB Airmen.

"The fact that every Airman will be able to access their own individual record, to include officer and enlisted performance reports, SGLI and decorations, is one of the best transformations the Air Force is making," said Captain Tisdale. "Airmen will no longer have to leave their workcenter or wait in line just to get a copy of their records, and our deployed Airmen will be better supported as well."

The digitization of the personnel records will provide Airmen the ability to view their UPRG 24/7. Furthermore, the records transformation will alleviate shift workers from having to interrupt their sleeping patterns to visit the MPF during normal duty hours.

After HQ AFPC completed the records scan, Charleston AFB Airmen will be able to access their UPRG via Automated Record Management System. The records were made available to Team Charleston Airmen by close of business Monday. Airmen can access their UPRGs electronically at https://wwa.afpc.randolph.af.mil/afpcsecure/MainMenu.asp.

Once the records are accessible, Charleston Airmen are highly encouraged to view their records for accuracy. The MPF will be ready to assist with any virtual record discrepancy issues.
