JOINT BASE CHARLESTON S.C. —
Joint Base Charleston, responsible for the runways shared by the base and Charleston International Airport, announced at 9 a.m. Sept. 15, 2018 that the joint airfield will open for limited recovery operations aircraft only.
Col. Clint ZumBrunnen’s, 437th Airlift Wing commander, decision to re-open the airfield to commercial and general aviation will be contingent upon the rescinded evacuation order from the governor of South Carolina.
The initial recovery aircraft consists of C-17 aircrew as well as a team of 628th Air Base Wing civil engineers critical to assessing base functions and infrastructure.
