JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. —
The Joint Base Charleston Commander terminated the limited evacuation order and issued a recall order for all remaining personnel, with the exception of personnel residing in Georgetown and Horry Counties, at 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018 after the governor’s announcement that lifted the state’s evacuation order.
Evacuees are authorized to return to their residence beginning 12 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018. eastern time and no later than 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018.
“I ask that all affected members route their questions through their chain of command for specific guidance pertaining to your situation,” said Col. Terrence Adams, Joint Base Charleston commander. “Our base personnel have been working hard to assess facilities and infrastructure for the safe return of our personnel and families. Thank you for your continued patience and support.”
In accordance with announcement by the governor to rescind the evacuation order, Col. Clint ZumBrunnen, the 437th Airlift Wing commander, announced the airfield shared by the base and Charleston International Airport will be open to commercial and general aviation as of the same time.
We urge Joint Base Charleston residents and personnel to travel safely as there may still be hazards on major roadways. Financial guidance regarding travel vouchers will be published by service specific finance offices.
The stop-movement for service members currently undergoing a Permanent Change of Station or Temporary Duty to Joint Base Charleston will be rescinded as of Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. All personnel affected by the Stop Movement Order can resume travel to Joint Base Charleston, but arrive no earlier than Monday, Sept. 17, 2018.
