U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Marvin Richardson pushes a pallet of personal protection kits onto a C-17 at Charleston Air Force Base, S.C., May 8, 2009. Thirty thousand personal protection kits were shipped to Haiti, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, where health-care officials are responding to confirmed and suspected cases of H1N1 Influenza-A infections. U.S. Southern Command, headquartered in Miami, directed the mission after learning health officials submitted requests for assistance to U.S. embassies in their respective countries. This SOUTHCOM mission supports the ongoing international preparedness efforts of the U.S. government, led by the U.S. Agency for International Development.
