A U.S. Air Force C-17 aircraft performs a low-level maneuver during Operation Thunderstruck at Charleston Air Force Base S.C., Dec. 16, 2009. C-17 aircraft from Charleston AFB conducted a strategic brigade airdrop exercise over North Auxiliary Airfield near North, S.C., demonstrating the global projection of U.S. airpower. U.S. Army Airborne Soldiers from the 2-319th Airborne Field Artillery, 82nd Airborne Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C., were airdropped in the exercise along with cargo pallets to simulate the seizure of a remote airfield, providing a joint training opportunity for the Airmen and Soldiers.
