Capt. Nicholas Lee, right, is awarded the Bronze Star by Col. James Clavenna at the 437th Aerial Port Squadron on Joint Base Charleston, S.C., Nov. 22, 2010, for his meritorious service while deployed in a combat zone in support of Operation Enduring Freedom while assigned to the 1st Brigade, 201st Corps, in Afghanistan from May 7, 2009, to May 6, 2010. Captain Lee distinguished himself by serving in several key positions and personally commanding more than 70 mounted combat patrols covering 1,500 miles of contested Afghan terrain across nine provinces. His exploits included leading two Air Assault missions to set polling sites in a known Taliban safe haven, effectively securing more than 1,200 Afghan votes; planning and execution of three humanitarian aid missions, delivering 30,000 pounds of aid valued at $125,000; and command of a Mobile Response Force for three classified prisoner transfer missions.
