The centrifuge is just one of many machine used by lab technicians at Naval Health Clinic Charleston. The centrifuge is used to separate the red blood cells from the serum in blood. Spinning at 3,000 RPMs, vials that have coagulated are placed into each slot in the machine. It forces the clear plastic plug, located at the bottom of each blood vial, to rise above the red blood cells, allowing technicians to test the liquid that is excreted.
