After blood is drawn in the phlebotomy lab, the withdrawn blood is brought to the centrifuge machine. The machine rotates the fluids with the lid closed, at a high rotating speed around a center axis separating the fluids from the solids with centrifugal force. Red blood cells are denser than plasma cells and during the centrifugal process the two are separated for further testing. (U.S. Air Force photo / Senior Airman Dennis Sloan)
