Faces of JB Charleston: Coast Guard Sector Charleston

By Staff Sgt. William A. O'Brien Joint Base Charleston Public Affairs

Faces of Joint Base Charleston is an opportunity spotlight joint team members from across the installation who do their part to support and execute the mission here.

Meet Seaman Omar Suarez, this week's featured Faces of JB Charleston service member.

Seaman Omar Suarez, Coast Guard Sector Charleston, is four weeks away from finishing a degree in Criminal Justice. After completing his degree, Suarez hopes to become a counterintelligence officer.

“I’ve seen the counterdrug side of things while working out on the small boats, but I’ve only seen a small part of that behind the scenes. I think my degree combined with my previous experience could contribute to that mission.”

Suarez was inspired to pursue a commission by a previous mentor of his who began his military career by enlisting in the Coast Guard, later becoming a warrant officer and then commissioning.

“He took a genuine interest in getting to know me and help me to establish and pursue any goals I sought. That’s what I hope to do for my people once I commission."
