The journey home: Final USAF C-17 takes inaugural flight

The sun rises above the final U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, P-223, as crew members arrive at the Boeing plant Sept. 12, 2013, at Long Beach, Calif. The C-17 was flown from California to Joint Base Charleston, S.C., by pilots to include Gen. Paul Selva, Air Mobility Command commander, Lt. Gen. James Jackson, Air Force Reserve commander, and Lt. Aaron Avery, 16th AS standards and evaluations superintendent, have 31 years of combined experience inside the C-17 Globemaster III. JB Charleston is scheduled to receive the final C-17 Sept. 12, 2013, as Boeing completes work on the U.S. Air Force’s last Globemaster. The first C-17 to enter the Air Force’s inventory arrived at Charleston Air Force Base in June 1993.
