Base housing appearance doesn’t go unnoticed

By Debra Skovinski 437th Civil Engineer Squadron

Spring is in the air. The days are getting warmer, trees are starting to bud and the green grass of our lawns is beginning to grow. It's once again that time of year to dust off lawn tools, tune up the lawn mower and get that weed eater and edger in good working order. This is the time to get a head start on those lawn chores by pruning your shrubbery, edging your lawn and mowing the weeds that grew throughout the winter.

Although we inspect lawns all year long, we are a little more lenient during winter months. As the growing season begins, enforcement of standards have to be looked at a little harder. The majority of discrepancies are for lawns not mowed or edged. Additional discrepancies are from grass in the curb joints. Another area of concern is cluttered carports and lawn. We understand, with limited storage space, you must store items on your carport, but we ask you store them neatly.

We also understand many of our military members are deployed and we empathize with that. However, lawn care still has to be accomplished. If you need assistance keeping up with your lawn care, the base housing office maintains a list of individuals who provide lawn care services. Give us a call; we'll be glad to work with you to gain a satisfactory solution.

Also, don't forget, Lawn of the Week and Month starts in May. The competition is always fierce, so it pays to get an early start. The main ingredient for a good-looking lawn is a well-trimmed, green appearance. Flowers and decorations add to that. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to call the base housing office at 963-3868.
