CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
The Combined Federal Campaign runs through Nov. 12. The CFC is the only campaign authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in the workplace and annually reviews charities to ensure that donated money truly goes to those in need. Thank you to the 40 percent of Team Charleston that already chosen to make a difference by donating. If you have not been contacted, please see your squadron CFC representative. If you have put off completing the donation form, please take a few minutes to review the information that was provided and I encourage you to make a difference today and give generously to support the charitable cause of your choice.
Another important way to make a difference is to vote. We put our lives on the line to defend our freedoms ... and voting is our right. I encourage everyone to make time to vote. Whether you vote locally or send in your absentee ballots for out-of state-residents, take the time to vote. Encourage friends and co-workers to do the same. The impact military members can make in an election is significant ... don't discount your solitary vote. Every voice is important; make sure yours is heard.
You may have heard that Air Mobility Command's 101 Critical Days of Summer ended successfully this year with no fatalities -- thank you for being your own safety manager! Sadly though, since the summer campaign ended, there have been four Air Force fatalities, one of whom was an AMC Airman. During the last three years, the Air Force has seen a significant increase in fall season fatalities. If we pay the same attention to reducing personal risk year round as we do during the 101 Critical Days of Summer, we can turn this trend around. Let's keep up our summer momentum and keep making good choices that result in safe activities. This fall marks the first joint service Fall Safety Campaign with the Naval Weapons Station which runs through Nov. 30. As part of that campaign, the wing safety office is hosting a National Save a Life Drinking and Driving Tour mandatory briefing Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. at the base theater for all Airmen 26-years-old and younger.
All Team Charleston members are encouraged to participate in the 2008 Air Force Climate Survey. Every three years, Air Force officials take a focused look inside our organization to discover what's really on Airmen's minds. This voluntary survey takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and responses are completely anonymous. The answers cannot be viewed by anyone outside of the study. This is an excellent communication tool and I encourage your participation.
Lastly, as we start our three-day weekend in observance of Columbus Day, I urge commanders and supervisors to make contact with each of your Airmen, either one-on-one or at commanders' calls, to remind them of the importance of keeping safety at the forefront of their activities. Ensure we use proper risk management and be good Wingmen. A designated driver is always a good idea, but if you find yourself in need of a ride home, the services of Airmen Against Drunk Driving will be available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Enjoy your weekend, drive responsibly, look after your Wingman and come back safely.
We are ... Team Charleston. Take the Fight to the Enemy!
