JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Many of us make resolutions at the beginning of a new year, and sometimes having a great example in mind of someone we'd like to emulate can help us accomplish our goals.
We're blessed here at Joint Base Charleston with thousands of great examples, none better than Master Sgt. Jason Broadus, Tech. Sgt. Brian Worley, and Tech. Sgt. Humberto Camara. These three superior NCOs were promoted through the Stripes for Exceptional Performers program to their current rank because they exemplify the type of NCO others should try to emulate.
We can resolve to be like the 437th Airlift Wing's annual award winners, Airmen whose accomplishments and leadership serve as great examples of what we can accomplish when we embrace the Air Force's core values.
Our enlisted award winners, Airman 1st Class Samuel Siewert, Senior Airman A.J. Williamson, Staff Sgt. Cornelious Cunningham, Staff Sgt. Danial Sawyer, Tech. Sgt. Scott Mills, Master Sgt. Donnie Leydig and Master Sgt. Chris Greek, as well as all of the officer and civilian winners, are truly outstanding members of our team. We can all learn from their hard work and take pride in what they do.
As our Airman Leadership School commandant, Master Sgt. Beth Dickens has touched many lives and helped prepare countless Airmen for the challenges they'll face as NCOs.
After a successful career, she will soon join the ranks of our retired Airmen; we all owe her a debt of gratitude for her dedication to professional military education. Let's resolve to thank Airmen like Sergeant Dickens for their service in defense of freedom and to welcome those Airmen who take their places, like Tech. Sgt. Joe Adams, our new ALS commandant.
Many members of our team have been working long hours supporting the Haiti earthquake relief efforts, and their hard work is helping to ease the suffering of those affected by the tragedy.
When tragedies like this occur, our leaders call on Joint Team Charleston to provide global reach, and once again, our Airmen have devoted themselves to making this effort a success. Please resolve to do this and everything else safely; we need every Airman and every piece of equipment mission-ready so that we can successfully complete any mission that comes our way.
Our nation has resolved to win the war on terrorism, and in 2010, many Airmen will be asked to deploy. I look forward to welcoming our Airmen back home, and I'm glad four of our first sergeants have recently returned and are taking care of our Airmen and their families here in garrison. Master Sgt. Chris Greek, Master Sgt. Tommy McGowan, Master Sgt. Angela Powell, and Master Sgt. Tim Smith: Welcome home!
Joint Base Charleston will continue to become a reality in 2010, and we have quality Airmen and sailors dedicated to getting the job done. We'll have challenges to overcome, but we have the right people to get the job done. Let's all resolve to make JBC another bragging point in a long history of successes for our team.
