Commander's Action Line

By Col. Martha Meeker Joint Base Charleston commander

The Commander's Action Line is your direct link to me as the commander of Joint Base Charleston. I would ask that you first, give the appropriate base agency a chance to solve the problem, but if you don't get a satisfactory answer, call me at 963-5581, or send an e-mail to
437aw.action@charleston.af.mil.

This forum is your opportunity to make Joint Base Charleston a better place to live, work and play. This is also your venue to tell me how our Airmen, Sailors, Air Force and Navy Civilians and Contractors are supporting you as a customer.

To ensure you receive a response to your concerns, please leave your name and the information needed to contact you.

Comment: I was calling about the base theater. I was wanting to know why construction has not been completed yet. The base has spent millions of dollars on this place and it still is not where it needs to be. Many light bulbs are out, the balcony is still not completed and the place has a very bad odor to it. I have noticed also that the base marquee sign had been down for a while. The base marquee sign has had numerous errors with spelling and times of the events. I do not understand why the base leadership is condoning this. Please look into these two things, I do not understand what is happening to this place. Thank you.

Response: The theater construction has been completed. The balcony you're referring to is an architectural feature intended to enhance the view of the projection area from the front. It was never intended to be a true balcony and is only for use by the projectionist. At the time of our inspection, all the high bay lights were working and no bad odor was present. The appointed building custodian monitors these issues and submits work requests. The 628th Civil Engineer Squadron will respond to fix any future issues, as they occur, in a timely manner.

The old marquees were in very poor condition and dated, which resulted in us being unable to correct many of the problems you identified. Our engineers have recently replaced them with new marquees and they are now fully operating. I, and the Public Affairs leadership, expect nothing but the highest standards as it pertains to posting information on the marquee. I have asked them to review their procedures to ensure the accuracy of all postings. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts on this matter.
