Diamond Tips

By Master Sgt. Steven J. Hart 628th Communications Squadron first sergeant

Enlisted Responsibilities

Have you been to the gym lately? A trend is occurring there and around the base. No, it's not the rumor mongering about the new physical training standards. It's the lack of attention to detail by Joint Base Charleston Airmen.

The simple standard of tucking in the PT shirt is being violated in mass it seems. I know this is a minor infraction but, whether you agree with it or you don't agree with it, it is the rule. What other standards are being broken in other areas of our duties that we don't like? Are shortcuts the norm?

Air Force Instruction 36-2618, The Enlisted Force Structure, which everyone must read, states all Airmen will: "Exhibit professional behavior, military bearing, respect for authority, and high standards of dress and personal appearance, on- and off-duty. Correct other Airmen who violate standards."

If this were followed, leadership wouldn't have to stop and correct Airmen daily who violate this and other standards. Come to think of it, if this governing directive was followed, other first sergeants and I wouldn't have to deal with a multitude of minor infractions like not saluting staff cars, not properly calling a room to attention, etc. If everyone took a second as a wingman and an Airman to pay attention to the little things, there would be a lot less big things.
