JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Thanksgiving is more than a day off and an abundance of great food - it's a time to enjoy with family and friends and to reflect on everything for which we are thankful. As the commander of the 315th Airlift Wing I can see a lot of things that those of us who choose to serve our country in uniform can be thankful for.
Not only do we have the honor and privilege of transporting America's war wounded back home from Iraq and Afghanistan, we also regularly help out less fortunate countries in times of crisis by delivering vital humanitarian and relief cargo.
As wing commander, I am very thankful to have such a dedicated group of men and women who choose wear the uniform, to give up your weekends and in many cases deploy for several months; all of this time away from your loved ones really does make a difference in the world!
I am also thankful for all the hard work our wing members have done for our two Operational Readiness Exercise's, and especially the upcoming Operational Readiness Inspection.
I urge all Airmen, uniformed and civilian, to take a few extra minutes to thoroughly think through your holiday plans and use sound risk management when traveling. I wish everyone an enjoyable holiday this Thanksgiving.
Each of you makes a difference--BE SAFE!
