Words of Wisdom -- Serving others gives us purpose

By Chief Master Sgt. Jose A. LugoSantiago 628th Air Base Wing Command Chief

"I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only
ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found
how to serve." -Albert Schweitzer

Beautiful sunny morning wherever you are (carry the sun within you!),

This week's powerful quote comes to us from the Center for character
Development at the Air Force Academy (Chief Bob Vasquez)...powerful words
from Albert Schweitzer. He received the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize for his
philosophy of "Reverence for Life." Amazingly, this man was not also a
philosopher, but also a physician and medical missionary.

Readying a few of his life's highlights, one can clearly see the product of
his success and accolades came from giving himself to a life that was
purpose-driven. He served others. As a matter of fact, already holding a
PhD, he gave up a previous profession to earn a Doctorate in Medicine (seven
yrs of study), so he could answer the call for missionary healing in the
early 1900′s.

This is a great leadership lesson. Whatever our leadership role is (mother,
father, warrior, business, etc), serving others gives us purpose...success
ensues as a byproduct of our actions. Take the time this week to walk slowly
through your organization and find out how we can best serve others. We will
all make a world of difference!

This week, share and BE GREAT!

Always motivated, Chief LugoSantiago
