JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. –
If you happen to be taking one of the popular energy and weight loss supplements that contain DMAA, you may have realized these products can't be found on base anymore. That's because there have been reports of products containing DMAA, also known as dimethylamylamine, causing heart attacks.
The Department of Defense has pulled the potentially dangerous supplements from base GNC stores pending further investigation. At this time, Air Force and Navy members are currently recommended not to use any items containing DMAA even though they can be legally purchased at off-base locations.
As always, before starting any dietary or workout supplements you are encouraged to consult your Primary Care Manager to discuss any potential dangers, plus this will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. We want a fit military to help achieve mission success, but not by risking your personal health taking unsafe supplements. See you at the gym!
