An Airman assigned to Joint Base Charleston died on the evening of Oct. 16 in an ATV accident while off-duty near Tallassee, Alabama.

According to officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Airman 1st Class Morgan Brooke Blackmon, 21, from Notasulga, Alabama, was a passenger on a 2008 Ranger ATV when it overturned, causing fatal injuries. The single-vehicle crash happened on Hayes Mill Road, about eight miles north of Tallassee. An investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.

“It’s a great loss to us all when we lose a member of our Air Force family. Team Charleston and I extend our deepest condolences and prayers to Airman 1st Class Blackmon’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said Col. Robert Lyman, Joint Base Charleston commander.

Blackmon was a fuels distribution specialist assigned to the 628th Logistics Readiness Squadron since February 22, 2016.
