JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. –
The Commander's Action Line is your direct link to me as the commander of Joint Base Charleston. I would ask that you first give the appropriate base agency a chance to solve the problem, but if you don't get a satisfactory answer, call me at 963-5581, or send an e-mail to
628.abw.pa@us.af.mil.
This forum is your opportunity to make Joint Base Charleston a better place to live, work and play. This is also your venue to tell me how our Airmen, Sailors, Air Force and Navy Civilians and Contractors are supporting you as a customer.
To ensure you receive a response to your concerns, please leave your name and the information needed to contact you.
Question: I'm calling about the cutting of the hours at the base gym. It's affecting the dependent family community and the retirement community utilizing the gym. It's also affecting some of the exercise classes that are taught at the gym.
Response: First and foremost, thank you for your call. The Force Support Squadron is currently in a large deployment rotation which has had significant impact on the staffing of the Air Base Fitness center. Although we are able to provide the required hours of operations per Air Force guidance, we were required to reduce the hours of operation from what was previously available. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this has caused some of our patrons. However, there is good news on the horizon. Air Force Services has scheduled a site visit for this coming May, which should allow us to install and begin operating the fitness center with 24-hour access. During the period when the fitness center is not staffed, patrons will be able to access the fitness center with their common access card. We believe this option, along with the "normal" hours of operations, will satisfy all the needs of our patrons.
Thank you for calling the Action Line.
