CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
The Base Tax Center will soon open offering free tax preparation services to active-duty members, retirees, reservists and guard on active duty, military family members and Department of Defense civilians with an identification card.
The BTC is located in Building 246, Room 125. The BTC will be open for full-service tax preparation from Jan. 22 through April 30. From Monday to Jan. 19 the center will be reserved for 1040 EZ tax preparation only. Hours of operation for the center are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be closed on federal holidays.
Services will be provided on a walk-in and drop-off basis. Walk-ins are welcome from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Drop-off service is available for most returns when all relevant documents are provided as detailed below. Appointment requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Although the BTC can prepare and file most tax returns, the BTC cannot prepare Schedule C, complicated and advanced Schedule D, and Schedule E tax forms. They also cannot prepare taxes for home-based businesses. Please call the BTC if you have any questions about the types of tax forms that can be prepared.
The BTC is staffed by volunteers from the legal office and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance representatives. Volunteers come from units located on Charleston AFB and from within our local community. VITA representatives have volunteered to provide a free service to Team Charleston. Remember to thank them for volunteering their time to assist with this important and invaluable program.
