CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Staff Sgt. Janet Schenck is a contract specialist with the 437th Contracting Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for a year. As a contract specialist, Sergeant Schenck's job includes tasks such as purchasing, renting, leasing or obtaining supplies and services from various civilian sources.
She has contributed to Team Charleston's mission by making several visible purchases recently including closed-circuit television security cameras for the 437th Security Forces Squadron and new tables and chairs in the dining facility.
This "Warrior of the Week" hails from Long Branch, N.J., and enlisted in the Air Force nearly seven years ago. She joined the Air Force with hopes to finish college and obtain her bachelor's degree in business.
"The best part of my job is that I am doing exactly what I like to do," said Sergeant Schenck. "Each purchase allows me to learn details about a new topic; it's challenging and rewarding at the same time."
In her off-duty time, Schenck tutors a third-grader in reading, spelling and vocabulary every Wednesday at Midland Park Elementary School as part of the Help One Student to Succeed program.
"Staff Sgt. Schenck is one of the hardest working Airmen I have met," said Tech. Sgt. James Ting, 437 CONS NCO in charge of Acquisition Flight A. "She is a sharp and dedicated contract specialist and a spark plug for squadron morale."
