Around the base

Vice wing commander farewell dinner: The 437th Airlift Wing is hosting a farewell dinner for Col. Steven and Mrs. Jill Harrison May 2 at 6 p.m. in the Charleston Club. The Harrison family will be departing for Dover AFB, Del., May 4 with a change of command scheduled for May 8. For additional information, contact Diane Chancey at 963-3201 or Lt. Col. Armed Forces Dinner: The Armed Forces Dinner will be held May 3 with a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Area Convention Center. Tickets are now on sale for $45 for active-duty military members, reservists, retirees and spouses. Healthcare Consumers Council: The Healthcare Consumers Council meeting will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the base chapel annex.  The council is committed to broadening beneficiaries' awareness about updates on health care benefits and services. Free youth camp: The Drug Education for Youth program is a two-week summer leadership day camp, which will be held June 11 through June 21. DEFY is a Department of Defense program, free for any military, retired or DOD employee children ages 9 to 12 years old. The deadline for youth sign up is April 30. "Common Sense Parenting" class: The Family Advocacy Program will offer a six-session parenting class. These evening classes will begin Tuesday and continue for five consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information or to register, call Jim Hernandez at 963-6504.

Quarterly awards ceremony: The 437th Airlift Wing Quarterly Awards Ceremony will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Charleston Club. For more information, contact Master Sgt. Paul Yecke at 963-2156.

Building a happy relationship: The Family Advocacy Program will offer a couples communication class starting May 1 and will meet for six consecutive Tuesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. To register, call Jim Hernandez at 963-6504.

April is the month of the military child: Stop by the Airman & Family Readiness Flight to discover the resources available to parents. There are books and videos on various parenting topics, information on selecting the right school for your child, Smooth Move program for children, scholarship resource networks for college-bound students and information on the Military Child Education Coalition. Career fair: The Naval Weapons Station, Charleston's Fleet and Family Support Center, in cooperation with the A&FRF is hosting a semi-annual Joint Navy and Air Force Job Fair Thursday. More than 90 representatives from local, national and international companies have confirmed their attendance. A variety of career fields will be represented including aircraft, retail, public safety and law enforcement, engineering, management, sales and government. The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Conference Center building 3112, Tank Road at the Naval Weapons Station Charleston. Kid$ and Ka$h: Kid$ and Ka$h is a brown bag lunch workshop for parents of children ages four to 16 who want to learn techniques to assist them in teaching their children positive money values. Topics covered include how and why to give allowances, winning the chores war and saving and spending wisely for children of all ages. Golf tournament: The 437th Maintenance Group will host a golf tournament May 11. It will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at the Wrenwoods Golf Course. The entry fee is $45 ($35 for course members) and includes a barbecue lunch with beverages. Patriots Point Museum: Come experience one of the largest museums of its kind in the world. The museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission for active duty military with an I.D. card is $13, but admission is free when in uniform. For more info, go to www.patriotspoint.org\

Airmen's wingman golf special: All Airmen (E-1 through E-4) will receive complimentary green fees through the month of April with the purchase of cart fees. Airman's Attic in need of donations: The Airman's Attic is in need of household items, children's clothing to size eight, appliances and furniture. If you have items that have been gently used, consider donating them to the attic.
