CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
"Pamper yourself" is the theme for this year's Military Spouse Appreciation Day events May 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Flight.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day, the Friday before Mother's Day, was established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan to recognize the many contributions and sacrifices military spouses make every day in support of military members and our country.
Alison Keller, Y102.5 disk jockey, children's book author and military spouse, will be the guest speaker for the event which will include free neck massages, mini facials, stress-relieving goody bags and door prizes.
"The spouses of our active-duty Airmen at Charleston AFB do so much to support this community; it is only fitting for us to honor and support them by providing a stress-free evening," said Flora Hoss-Mason, A&FRF chief.
Craft demonstrations, stress reduction techniques, community and base resources that aid in de-stressing and fun and inexpensive things to do around town this summer are just a few of the topics guest speakers from the base and Charleston area will cover.
"It's going to be a fun, relaxing night - no stress," said Jill Knox, Phoenix Spouse volunteer and event coordinator. "We have some great door prizes and we even have babysitting available for those spouses who need it."
