Team Charleston welcomes new CES commander

The 437th Civil Engineer Squadron welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony June 28 at the Charleston Club.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Todd, former Division Chief of Readiness, Installations and Mission Support Directorate at Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB, Ill, replaced Lt. Col. Russell Hula. Colonel Hula will be taking the US Army War College course in residence for the next year at Carlisle Barracks, Penn.

Colonel Todd is a native of Murfreesboro, Tenn. He is a graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps and Vanderbilt University with a degree in civil and environmental engineering. He was commissioned into the Air Force in 1989.

Why did you join the Air Force?
I attended college on an Air Force scholarship, so the initial reason was to pay for school. I also had a great desire to travel and see the world.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?
This move from Scott AFB to Charleston AFB was my first state to state move in my career.

What is your favorite movie?
Saving Private Ryan

What is your major pet peeve?
My family helped me answer this one: I hate for drawers, cabinet doors and closet doors to be left open.

How would you describe your leadership style?
Delegating ... give your people the resources and responsibility and expect them to get the job done. Follow up with recognition and more support.

Who is your role model and why?
I would have to say my dad, basically in the way he lived and treated those around him.

How do you feel about coming to Charleston?
I'm thrilled about coming to Charleston and taking command of the 437 CES.

What are your initial plans as the new commander?
My initial plans are to meet the men and women of the squadron and understand the specific issues of each functional area.

What is the goal and mission of your agency?
The goal is to support the mission of the wing and to take care of the people of Team Charleston through constructing and maintaining the facilities and infrastructure of the base and protecting all assets, staff and families who call Charleston home while training and equipping our Airmen to deploy and operate wherever tasked.

What are your expectations of your team?
I expect my team to do their jobs professionally, efficiently and safely, but also improve themselves and take care of their families.

What was your most memorable assignment and why?
All have been memorable, but my overseas assignments to the United Kingdom, Panama and Japan stand out for the interaction with the host countries
