Team Charleston welcomes new CPTS commander

The 437th Comptroller Squadron welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony July 6 at the Charleston Club.

Maj. Seung Paik, a recent graduate of the Air Command and Staff College in-residence, replaced Lt. Col Chuck Shea. Colonel Shea will assume the duties of Chief of Budget Exercises at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C.

Major Paik was born in Seoul, South Korea, but calls Chicago home, where he was raised since he was 1. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from the Air Force Academy and also a Master's degree in Economics from Penn State University, Penn. He was commissioned into the Air Force in 1993.

How do you feel about coming to Charleston?
My family and I love it! It's a great mission, the sharpest base in Air Mobility Command, next door to the ocean and minutes from historic downtown. Plus, we love fresh seafood ... what more could we ask for?

What are your initial plans as the new commander?
I am going to get to know my people and the needs of the wing.

What is the goal and mission of your agency?
To provide a vast array of financial leadership positively impacting every member and every unit on base.

What are your expectations of your team?
To live and serve honorably.

What was your most memorable assignment and why?
My three fast years at the Pentagon. We had some crazy weeks in that old building, but we accomplished much. We also had a lot happen personally but overcame a number of obstacles which has definitely strengthened our family.

What is an interesting fact about yourself?
From the time I met my wife to the time we got married, it was 6 weeks ... when you know, you know.

What is your favorite movie?
Shawshank Redemption

What is your major pet peeve?
Sloooowwww customer service.

Stephen Ambrose

What is your favorite quote?
"I did not come to be served, but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for many." The Gospel according to Mark.

Why did you join the AF?
For all the wrong reasons.

How would you describe your leadership style?
I would describe myself as a servant-leader.

Who is your role model and why?
In many ways, my parents. They showed me sacrifice, commitment, priorities and unbelievable work ethic. Even now, my father keeps telling me to always dream big!
