Warrior of the week: Airman 1st Class Dustin Walls

437th Maintenance Squadron

Airman 1st Class Dustin Walls is an electronic warfare avionics technician for the 437th Maintenance Squadron and has been station at Charleston AFB for a little more than a year.

As an aviation warfare avionics technician, he is responsible for maintaining the anti-missile defense warfare systems for the C-17. The aircraft has an anti-missile defense warfare system capable of displacing either a flare or laser in the event of an enemy missile attack.

"I love the defense warfare technology," said Airman Walls. "I like the hands-on work involved with this very complex warfare missile system, and working with the C-17 is a real privilege. Knowing that the missile defense system operates properly and the aircraft can fly safely, is very satisfying. I would like very much to continue my Air Force career in this field."

This "warrior of the week" hails from Milton, Pa., and joined the Air Force in September 2006 right after he graduated high school. However, he plans to attend college next semester while he is still in the Air Force.

"Airman Dustin 'Dusty' Walls is our new, energetic maintenance technician," said Master Sgt. James Wilson, 437 MXS electronic countermeasures section chief. "He takes his job very seriously. His job directly protects our aircraft from enemy missile attacks and, in the current threat environment, that is serious stuff."
