Warrior of the week: Airman Cecilia Sanchez Castro

437th Services Squadron

Airman Cecilia Sanchez Castro is a food service apprentice with the 437th Services Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston for eight months.

As a food services specialist, she is responsible for preparing approximately 75 flight meals a day for the C-17 aircrews and flightline support Airmen.

"I enjoy preparing box lunches for the aircraft crews and ground support Airmen," said Airman Sanchez Castro. "It is very satisfactory when I hear that they have enjoyed their meal. A quality meal that is delivered on time makes our Airmen happy and productive. Knowing that they can enjoy a good meal in flight is the best way to start out on a long mission."

This "warrior of the week," who hails from Sunnyside, Wash., has been in the Air Force for one year and enlisted right out of high school.

"The Air Force was the place for me," said Airman Sanchez Castro. "I saw the opportunities to improve my lifestyle, travel and further my education. My goal is to become a nurse some day. I plan to meet with the education specialist next month to set up a course schedule to become a nurse."

Airman Sanchez Castro is a member of the Charleston AFB Honor Guard and considers it an honor to serve. She volunteers for most events her squadron supports. She recently volunteered to assist in the Airman's golf tournament.

"Airman Sanchez Castro is an outstanding performer," said Tech. Sgt. Dennis Brown, 437 SVS assistant dining hall manager. "She is one of the most reliable and dedicated Airmen I have ever supervised."
