Warrior of the week: Staff Sgt. Deolinda Lindley

437th Aerial Port Squadron

Staff Sgt. Deolinda Lindley is the unit fitness program manager for the 437th Aerial Port Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for five years.

As the unit fitness program manager, she is responsible for conducting the annual fitness program for approximately 380 Airmen as well as maintaining fitness records for each Airman. She recruits and maintains approximately 25 physical training leaders to help carry out the program and coordinates a two-day PTL training and certification with the 437th Medical Group Health and Wellness Center.

"I like to see people grow and improve themselves," said Sergeant Lindley. "It takes a lot of individual motivation and determination to meet the Air Force fitness standards. The older we get, the more difficult the fitness program standards are to achieve. So, I enjoy watching and helping people who really care about their career. The Air Force Fitness Program can become a lifetime event and a healthy Airman is generally happier and more productive. A fit Airman positively contributes to our mission of keeping the C-17s flying."

This "warrior of the week" spent some years of her life in Barcelona, Spain, Houston and Orem, Utah. Sergeant Lindley said she was excited about what the Air Force had to offer including a career, training, job security and personal challenges. She also has a degree in air transportation from the Community College of the Air Force and plans to make the Air Force her career and retire at the highest level possible.

"Staff Sgt. Lindley recently obtained noncommissioned officer status, but she possesses leadership qualities of a well-seasoned leader," said Tech. Sgt. Patricia McClure, expeditionary readiness instructor for 437 APS. "She is an aggressive go-getter and attacks every challenge head on. She took over the fitness program in May and has mastered her job. Her professionalism and high level of knowledge have captured the 437 APS a 98 percent pass rate on fitness examinations."
