CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
Senior Airman Brandon Brown is a security forces controller for the 437th Security Forces Squadron and has been stationed at Charleston AFB for one year.
As a security forces controller, he is responsible for receiving calls and dispatching security patrols to the respective trouble spots for a range of incidents from traffic accidents to domestic disputes. The security forces control center is the nerve center for base security. The need for the controller to identify the security emergency and dispatch the necessary resources in a timely manner is critical. The controller is the first line of defense and paramount to maintaining base security.
"There is a history of law enforcement in my family," said Airman Brown. "My grandfather was a big influence in my decision to join the Air Force and seek a career in law enforcement. I wanted to follow my grandfather who served four years in the Air Force and later became the sheriff in Charlotte County, Va., ... I just wanted to follow in his footsteps."
This "warrior of the week" hails from Charlotte County and has been in the Air Force since April 2003. He has been recently selected for promotion to staff sergeant.
"The age requirement to become a police officer in Charlotte County is 21," said Airman Brown. "But the Air Force offered me the opportunity for a career in law enforcement, continuing education and travel opportunities at age 19. Family security was a big benefit also and it takes a special person to be an Air Force wife. My wife, Shannon, is that special person, and we plan to make the Air Force a career."
"Airman Brown is an outstanding individual," said Tech. Sgt. Jermaine Gibbs, Delta Flight sergeant. "As a security forces controller, he has demonstrated the ability to control stress-filled situations. He is also extremely knowledgeable on all facets of Air Force regulations. Airman Brown is well-deserving of his recent selection for promotion to staff sergeant."
