CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. –
The National Education Association will celebrate American Education Week Nov. 11 to 17.
During this week of celebration the Charleston AFB Education and Training Center will host an education fair. This year's fair will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair brings colleges and universities together in a central location and gives military members and their family members and Department of Defense civilians an opportunity to learn more about the education programs on and off base. It is an ideal time to meet the various schools and learn about programs they have to offer.
Some of the schools participating in this year's fair include on-base schools: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Park University, Southern Illinois University and Webster University. They will join 24 other representatives in the Education Center's auditorium in building 221 as they display their schools' programs and offer additional information to guests as they make their rounds to each of the colleges and universities.
Two of the four on-base schools, ERAU and Park University, offer courses geared toward satisfying degree requirements for the Community College of the Air Force as well as their degree programs. SIU offers an 18-month program in workforce development, and Webster University offers graduate degree programs.
There will also be gifts in the form of door prizes given away at the fair. Each school has consented to provide gifts such as gift certificates to the Charleston AFB base exchange, beach bags, folding beach chairs, polo shirts, flash drives, t-shirts, mugs and much more. The drawing for door prizes will be held at noon and members must be present to win.
It is vitally important that members of the Air Force community know what is available to them and how much they stand to gain by taking advantage of opportunities like this education fair. The Air Force pays up to $250 per semester hour for Airmen to work towards their educational goals, paying up to $4,500 per fiscal year. Everyone attending the education fair will walk away with the knowledge that an education is available to anyone who desires it.
