Base silent auction to benefit Team Charleston

By Andrea Stachewicz Charleston AFB Officer Spouses Association

The Officer Spouses Association is hosting a silent auction Nov. 30 in the pavilion behind the Charleston Club. The social and preview hour is from 5 to 6 p.m. and the bidding will start at 6 p.m.

This is a base-wide event that is open to everyone -- officer, enlisted, retired, reserve and civilian -- in an effort to raise funds for military family scholarships.

The OSA is more than just a social group that works to make contributions as a whole. They are a mixture of spouses who get together to make a difference in the lives of those Airmen they know and some they have not yet met. They get together for activities, luncheons and base events to raise money for scholarships. However, Airmen don't have to be a member of the OSA to help make a difference in the base community.

The silent auction is a way for everyone to be able to participate while shopping for great items. Last year's auction was a major success with a lot of things for families to enjoy -- this year's event is bound to be even better. Here are a few facts from last year's success:

· In 2006, proceeds from the OSA silent auction and the consignment shop raised more than $9,000 for charity.
· Four Air Force dependents each received $1,000 scholarships.
· Two Air Force spouses each received $500 scholarships.
· More than $4,000 went directly to the Holiday Cheer Program to benefit base families.

Everyone knows Christmas is just around the corner and the auction has some great presents for loved ones.

Here is a list of a few "hot items" that will be available to bid on:

· Fishing excursion
· Harbor cruise
· Autographed National Football League football
· Golf packages
· Skydiving

There will also be free appetizers and wine tasting, and the club will have beverages available for purchase. Tickets are available at all 437th Services Squadron facilities. Pick one up, put it on the fridge as a reminder, and bring it with you to receive a free raffle ticket for a prize.

Attendance (and bids) at this year's auction and purchases at the consignment shop directly benefit members of the Charleston AFB community. Come get some Christmas shopping done and have a chance to enjoy it, too.
